There’s a fantastic book called Learned Optimism by Martin Seligman. It tells you that you’re more likely to be optimistic or pessimistic depending on the outlook of your main carers.
So if you were brought up by pessimists, you’re more likely to be pessimistic, and vice versa for optimism.
But the other interesting thing it shows, is that optimistic people are more likely to be successful in life because they just go for more opportunities, they’ve got a more positive outlook and they’re just more attractive people to be around.
So if you know that, you can change. You can.
You can stop using language which is personal, permanent, and pessimistic and you can change your language so that you don’t use those kind of phrases in your own head even.
This will change you from being pessimistic to optimistic and then you can optimise your chance of success, because everybody loves being around an optimist!
