Even worse than limiting beliefs, which I talked about yesterday, are negative beliefs.
Now these are the ones where you’re doing what I call catastrophizing, where you’re absolutely, definitely sure that something won’t work, even though it appears to have worked for other people in other circumstances, in other times, in other countries.
You need to catch yourself when you’re expressing a negative belief, and you need to be able to be around people who are versed and who know about this way of thinking because it’s a lot easier to catch people, other people, in limiting and negative beliefs, than it is to catch yourself in them as well.
And it’s really quite frightening how easy it is to have a positive, happy, optimistic outcome turned into a negative belief or a limiting belief.
Just by the actions and the words of people around you. Often people around you haven’t done the thing that you want to do.
So, don’t let yourself be swayed by other people who are not qualified to give an opinion about whether something’s possible or not, whether it’s possible for you, whether it’s possible in this country, whether it’s possible in these circumstances. Just think to yourself, that is a negative belief and I’m not going to put up with it.
The key is to find someone who is just like you, who is just as tall as you, same colour hair as you, same height, same age as you, and think, have they managed to do it, and if the answer is yes, then it’s possible for everybody, not just them.
