I mentioned the Dave Ramsey Show a couple of videos ago. I’ve been thinking a lot about the problems that he was trying to help solve on that show.
You know, a lot of it came down to boundaries. People letting other people do bad things. They were scared of those people not loving them anymore.
One of the best ways to live your life is to go through life loving well but not actually giving a damn about what the people you love think about you. Which means that you’re less likely to get trampled on financially and emotionally.
A lot of Dave’s advice, particularly to parents, was to love your children but don’t bail them out all the time because you’re not helping them that way.
He also talked a lot about partners who were not sticking to the budget and not sticking to the financial plan. It’s nearly impossible to sort your finances out if you’re not working as a team.
So how can you go through life giving love and being loved but not giving a damn about what the people you love think about you? Pretty powerful stuff, isn’t it?
