Nicola talks about James all the time on our podcast and I really had no idea who he was except for that and she, a superfan, says he shared much more personal stuff with us on our interview than even she’d heard before. I felt very fortunate to be there and meet James, whatever the time of day, and once you’re up, you’re up, aren’t you?
James was a high earner as the General Manager at a Mercedes Benz dealership but when he saw the astronomical earnings of his customers he recognised that they were all owners of their own businesses, so he set out to do that himself. He wanted no cap on his own earnings and where the day of the week and the 9-5 became irrelevant.
He sold himself as what he describes as a “knowledge worker” at $4,000 AUD for half a day’s sales training and that enabled him to buy his first laptop in 2005, register his business name and learn how to build a website using dial-up internet. It took James 6-9 months to achieve his first online sale of $49.25. But over the next 2.5 years he took that up to a level where it matched his income from the day job so he could quit and free up 70+ hours a week.
