On the podcast a couple of weeks ago, I was talking to Judith about how I felt overwhelmed and rather stressed and over busy. I felt like I couldn’t get to my hobby, which is to do some creative writing, either in the form for novel or now screenplays. And I felt like I needed to be at my computer all the time working.
And I couldn’t work at what was causing this feeling, because I don’t by any way stretch the imagination work a full-time day. I choose what I do when I do it. In the summer particularly, I feel very able to stop work about two o’clock, and go down the beach.
Actually, I often have to, because it’s too hot in Greece to work in the afternoons. So why was I feeling so harried? And I finally worked out it was because I got behind with things.
I didn’t have the cushion of time that I normally have, which is one to two weeks. One summer, my projects. I like to have a good cushion because then when there’s a big storm and the electricity goes out or when the Internet goes down because the wind is really high, or when something needs changing because it hasn’t been done right, I’ve got plenty of time to do it.
So that’s the key to not feeling stressed and harried is to have everything set up so you deliver a week or two in advance.
