Digital Marketing Challenge #003 | Finding The Right Agency
Over the last few months over 600 people have filled in a short digital marketing survey revealing their biggest challenges with either getting started with internet marketing or with marketing their businesses online. Respondents who completed just 2 x digital marketing survey questions, are now enjoying their free copy of my book “How To Market ANY Business Online”
In this series of blog posts, I’ll be answering the survey questions “What’s your biggest challenge with marketing online?” and “If I could wave a realistic magic wand, what do you think the solution to that challenge might be?”. As you’ll see, some answers were terse to the point of vanishing! Others gave me more to work with!
In my survey, one of the first respondents said their biggest digital marketing challenge was:
and you thought the possible solution to that is
My Advice (based on the above)
OK, I’m going to assume on the one hand that you haven’t tried an agency yet but have heard that they are unreliable. In that case, I’d ask around for recommendations (other business owners, members of online groups you belong to) but I’d specifically look for agencies who walk their talk in the areas that you want them to work in.
For example, if I was personally looking for an agency, I’d want someone who is great with video, on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram. That’s where I want to look great because my ideal clients are looking for me as a mentor to be cutting edge (so I can teach them all that stuff too).
If you are UK based, the first one that springs to mind is Dan Knowlton’s KPG Digital Marketing in Kent, as I’ve personally seen him speak, he’s all over those platforms above doing his own personal brand marketing and marketing his agency and I know there are two other guys back in the office, doing some of the work too so it’s not Dan dependent.
if the issue is not expertise but previous unreliability, with you paying for things that don’t get delivered, I would again ask for recommendations but I would not go straight to a retainer payment basis, I’d give them small projects to prove themselves on, and only when they had blown my socks off over a period of time would I take them on, with a retainer etc.
Then I’d make sure clear performance based objectives were set in the contract with a “get out” clause if any objectives are not met.
