Day 9 of the Making Money From Blogging Duel. Over at the Michael Dunlop / IncomeDiary.com 30 Day Blogging Plan it’s all about getting some affiliate links on your site to put yourself in danger of making money from Day One.
Or Day 9 as it turns out to be! LOL, love my own jokes!
This money making strategy is called Affiliate Marketing and it’s just ONE of the strategies you can use to monetize your blog.
Go and read Michael’s blogging plan in detail – particularly for Day 9 – because he’s got some good advice, all about finding affiliate programmes that work, and actually sell, which they have to do to make you money.
When Picking Affiliate Products Think About The Needs Of Your Market
I’m going to think about my target market for the Digital Marketing Brighton blog for a minute and think about what they need / want.
- Marketing Advice
- Internet Marketing Services
- Business Advice & Services
- Success Thinking Stuff
I already promote some good business orientated stuff on my Nicola Cairncross / Business Success Factory blogs but I want to be able to tell which income is generated by THIS new blog specifically, so I need to use a different email address to sign up for some of my favourites (the ones that generate income) and perhaps even a different Clickbank account, if some of the stuff I want to promote is on there. I have already set up a new gmail email address (easier than a new Pop3 email and easily taken over by any future purchaser of the site should I want to sell).
I might start by promoting my Spartan Marketing Masterclass, the next series of which starts on 5th January – I can use a shopping cart adtracker to track that and see how many clicks it generates – and sales hopefully.
Don’t forget to promote your own products and services in with other peoples – you make more profit that way!
Actually, I pushed through the pain and signed up for the affiliate programmes for two other products that I know, use and love – Subliminal Power and BlueHost Web Hosting.
Why pain? Because I find filling in forms very boring and my Roboform is not fully functional at the moment due to being terrified to download it onto this ancient computer – you may remember a day or two ago, my Firefox and Roboform started having a little fun with randomly filling in fields in OptimizePress? Can’t chance it again.
Put Yourself In Danger Of Making Money Then Concentrate On Traffic Building
So I have the chance of making £147 (around $220) if anyone signs up for a Spartan Marketing Masterclass, starting again on 5th January, $65 if anyone signs up for a Bluehost account and around $20 if anyone buys Subliminal Power – and they should, it’s very good and I use it all the time. I’m resisting the temptation to make those affiliate links because I don’t want to skew the figures for our blog duel – how ethical is that?
I need a higher priced item too – or does my Spartan Marketing link count? I could pick a Rich Schefren product like the very affordable Founders Club for business people – all of Rich’s products are perfect for serious business people, I’ll have a look.
I’m still not absolutely sure how to add widgets to the sidebar using the OptimizePress theme (which I fall in love with more and more every day btw) but let’s have a look at how to do that too. If I can’t figure it out, I’ll add a Resources page.
Update: I’ve never met him and I suspect he’s way too young for me but I might just have to marry James Dyson and have his babies! Can OptimizePress get any sexier? In the latest upgrades he’s added a blogging function (which took away my need to install a seperate wordpress blog on a subdirectory just in time), and now I find that magically, there is a blog sidebar added in the widgets section. Talk about over delivering! If you are not using OptimizePress yet, you bloomin’ should be – it blows every other theme on the PLANET out of the water IMHO.
Anyway, back to the blogging duel and while I’m at it, let’s have a look at what Steve’s been up to on his new blog TheHowToLounge.com – reluctant though I am to send any traffic his way LOL (we did agree no live links). Hmmmm, that tummy bug and the sudden influx of new clients must have put him back more than I thought.
Good, gives me time to catch up!
