It’s Day 8 of the “Making Money From Blogging” Duel and I have to confess, I’ve slipped a bit over the last few days and I’m only just catching up – my lack of laptop challenges are getting to me now. I have found myself nearly sobbing with frustration at working on an old slow computer (which I’m totally grateful for the loan of, nonetheless!) and not having my usual tools and programmes ready to hand. Dave from Adur Computer Supplies says it’s going to cost £240 inc. parts, labour and VAT, but PC World wouldn’t even look at it for that money! It is a good one so I’d better go for it.
I’ve also had some weird stuff happening with Firefox – the first being that it started putting some strange words in some of my blog postings and pages – they said something along the lines of “begin_skype_highlighting_end_skype_highlighting” and then it started appearing in my new OptimizePress pages.
Gotta tell you, the support at OptimizePress is superb! James often answers himself especially when the first line havent’ been able to help – very impressive – put me onto some stuff on the web that alerted me to disable the Skype addon in Firefox which fixed that issue.
But I was still getting loads of random stuff inserting itself into fields in my WordPress pages…..eventually, I completely uninstalled Skype, Firefox, Chrome, Roboform and Goodsync and reinstalled just Chrome and the issue has stopped.
But catch up I will – failure is not an option – and Steve has had his own challenges, what with a dicky tummy from some slightly geriatric prawns he consumed.
I’ve grown to love my two new logos and need to credit think that’s definitely the way forward for me, who is very challenged in the graphic design department. Call in the experts.
So, Day 8. What does Michael Dunlop have to say in his 30 Day Blogging Plan?
Ah, it’s an old favourite tussle of mine – the No Leakage Rule. Michael says that you should have no links on your front page apart from affiliate links (and hardly any of those!) or links to your highest converting pages, such as your welcome/squeeze pages. Go read all of what he says as it’s good advice and one that most sites would do well to look at.
I have just been to see what DigitalMarketingBrighton.com looks like and it’s a squeeze page on the front so no leakage there. The way this blog template is set up, I’m not even sure how to add stuff to the sidebar, so there is no leakage there yet either. As a site matures it grows leakage and I think it’s great to regularly review it.
An easy day for me!
Let’s look at our traffic and if we have been indexed by Google yet instead.
Not much action on the traffic front now I’ve excluded my own computer, still only 1 visit by Google searches.
I did find it on Page 3 of Google the other day, but it’s disappeared again now for the search term “digital marketing brighton” not that many people are searching for that anyway, our real target is “marketing brighton” or “marketing sussex” or even “internet marketing brighton”. Never mind, the not-so-mythical Google Sandbox is back and you just have to push through it and keep adding relevent content. I’m going to add an article a day till it shows again.
