It’s Day 7 of the Making Money From Blogging Duel and I’m sitting with TWO BLANKETS wrapped around my legs – it’s so freaking cold. I’m supposed to be taking my boy to the orthodontist today but I’m worried about driving the car. I could take him on the bus, but I don’t have much actual cash and the bank is miles away. What to do?
I’m also supposed to be going to a workshop in Heathrow tomorrow but the roads are icy bad – surely they will have gritted the M23 and the M25 and the roads around Heathrow? It’s just a matter of getting to the main road now.
Day 6 is all about styling blog posts. How to use keyword rich sub-headlines and why you should, how to get to grips with some simple HTML etc. I know this stuff so that is cool. One of my favourite features is the indent paragraph feature but it often goes wrong, so being able to swap to the HTML view and move the <blockquote> tags to the right place is useful.
It helps if you have actually done some blog posts to style! Michael still must be assuming this goes without saying but it bears repeating. You need to actually blog some content to get traffic. I’ve added some key word rich posts to the blog in the sub-directory, and today I’m going to add some more, even though I’m waiting for the upgrade of OptimizePress – I can always export them.
Hey, let’s look at Steve’s new blog – see if he’s added any content yet! I know he’s been mad busy with client work and is following Michael Dunlop’s plan to the letter….Yes, no blog posts yet.
Let’s see if I’m getting any traffic – it would be a miracle if I am but let’s see. Well, 10 visits since I started it but most of them are probably me. I’ve now excluded my computer / IP address in the filter section of the Digital Marketing Brighton Google Analytics account which you can do by visiting WhatIsMyIPAddress.com and noting down your numbers, then going to the Edit section of the Google Analytics and clicking on the Filter link. It’s pretty obvious what to do from there but you will need to use the drop down menu in the middle section.
Interestingly, I’ve been indexed by Google and had one visitor on the key phrase “mainstream articles about “personal selling” ” – now that’s a long tail key phrase if ever I saw one. But it did give me an idea for a blog post and I ended up writing my first bit of orginal content for this blog so that should help with SEO. After a few weeks, I’ll copy it onto my other blogs and also upload it to EzineArticles.com to leverage it, but I want the Digital Marketing blog to get the first dibs on it, SEO wise.
