Wow, I can’t believe that there are only 8 more days to go in the “Making Money Blogging Duel” following Michael Dunlop’s “30 Day Create A Blog Plan”.
It’s really opened my eyes to the fact that there is a LOT more to creating a successful blog than just adding content willy-nilly. And I’ve discovered stuff about my own blog that I never would have realised unless I was focusing on it every single day, because, of course, every time I did something for the new Duel Blog at DigitalMarketingBrighton.com, I’ve obviously thought about whether I’ve done that step for this blog, NicolaCairncross.com.
It’s also made me realise AGAIN that, in order to be a professional blogger, you really need to concentrate on just ONE blog (unless you have a team of contributors of course). For example, sometimes I’ve written about what I’m going to do over at the new blog, here, but then not actually gone and done it!
Having said that, one of my favourite bloggers Yaro Starak over at Entrpreneur’s Journey has started regularly featuring guest bloggers and initially he told you up front who wrote the post and so I wasn’t reading the guest posts. Then he swapped it round so you only found out who wrote the post once you clicked through to read more. You got sucked in by the blog post to read more and, initially, I felt a bit disappointed having read the post then realised that it wasn’t Yaro. Then I realised that I was enjoying the excellent posts his guest were contributing and to just get over myself! He’s contributing often enough to keep the blog personal.
What is my Educational Post going to be about?
Actually, I already have written so many educational posts, on various blogs, because they are one of my favourite types of blog post to write. However, this blog needs unique content. It’s got to be relevent to Digital Marketing so I’m going to head over to Wikipedia for some enlightenment and inspiration.
Here’s the definition of Digital Marketing as found on Wikipedia:
“Digital Marketing is the promoting of brands using all forms of digital advertising channels to reach consumers. This now includes Television, Radio, Internet, mobile and any other form of digital media.
Whilst digital marketing does include many of the techniques and practices contained within the category of Internet Marketing, it extends beyond this by including other channels with which to reach people that do not require the use of The Internet. As a result of this non-reliance on the Internet, the field of digital marketing includes a whole host of elements such as mobile phones, sms/mms, display / banner ads and digital outdoor.
Previously seen as a stand-alone service in its own right, it is frequently being seen as a domain that can and does cover most, if not all, of the more traditional marketing areas such as Direct Marketing by providing the same method of communicating with an audience but in a digital fashion. Digital is now being broadened to support the “servicing” and “engagement” of customers.”
Hmmm, ok, so I could write an educational blog post about any aspect of Digital Marketing including Email Marketing, Internet Marketing, Direct Marketing, Mobile Marketing, Outdoor Marketing or Text Marketing.
I think I’ll tell the story of how I used a combination of traditional marketing and internet marketing when I took over my hotel in Worthing, The Acacia, to illustrate how a fusion of the more traditional marketing techniques with more cutting edge digital marketing techniques can be so much easier than people think.
Google Position Update: Not listed now in first 10 pages – just keep adding content, we’ll be back! No change from yesterday.
Traffic Update: Averaging 1 unique visit per day after 20 days, with occasional peaks of 8-10 people. I’ve scheduled more blog posts which should help. No change.
Mailing List Update: 3 in total, 1 unsubscribed again. No change. Need to write an autoresponder follow up series (or amend an existing one! although MD has not said to do that yet so I’ll wait)
Earnings Update: I am recommending BlueHost, Subliminal Power & my own Spartan Marketing Masterclasses on this blog so far. Earnings to date: £10 from joining an affiliate programme. No change.
Overview: With these tragic traffic figures I wouldn’t expect any subscribers or earnings. Need to be patient and see what the next 10 days of the plan brings, in the way of traffic-getting action and hopefully getting listed by Google again. However I’ve got to be honest & realistic – while I’ve written about some of the steps – like getting an interview – I haven’t actually implemented them yet.
