On Success, Business & Money
I have been blogging daily and sometimes more than daily, as
ideas occur, for the last 30 days pretty much.
I read recently that one successful blog has added over 7500
unique articles to their blog in one year, but most of the
successful ones seem to have around 20-30 posts per month.
Nowadays, to compete for traffic, most of which is long tailed
key word traffic, it’s not enough to just add relevent content
weekly, I’d be aiming for daily!
Here’s a selection of some of the recent articles I’ve
Article # 1 – How To Be Happy In Business
I got my beloved laptop back this week and while the ancient
desktop, kindly lent by Steve Watson, did stirling service, I’m
so glad my lappie is back. One thing I realised though, I had to
give it a tidy up!
I had been introduced to Dropbox just before the power failed on
my laptop, so my first job was to set that up – as Dropbox backs
up and updates the files you set to sync constantly, and you can
get 50GB for $9.99 a month, it’s brilliant value and very
The first thing to tidy up was my desktop – I’d got used to
working minimally over the last week and wanted to get rid of the
non-essential items on the desktop. One of the things I found
though, that I had downloaded from somewhere, was this Venn
Diagram which had obviously struck a chord although I hadn’t
looked at it since.
However, as it’s the time of year that you think about the year
to come, what you are going to focus on, what you want to do
differently, etc., I thought I would print it off and just think
about it for a while.
I loved it’s simplicity and the colours appealed too! Reminds me
of a kitchen we had in a house we renovated!

Article # 2 – The Blogging Duel – Day 26
In Day 26 of his 30 Day Create A Blog Plan, Michael Dunlop shares
his thoughts on how to make your blog more sticky, and what he
personally likes about a sticky blog.
He also shares a couple of great resources and articles so make
sure you go and check out Day 26 on his blog too!
What makes a blog sticky for me?
I can sum it up in a few words.
Personality + openness + frequency + honesty + great “how to”
content = Great Blog!
My favourite blogs are those of Yaro Starak, Frank Kern (who also
has a more sales orientated blog at Mass Control), Dave Navarro
(who also has the Rock Your Day blog), Pat Flynn’s Smart Passive
Income blog and of course Michael Dunlop’s Income Diary. Now
some of those are more “open” than others, some blog more
frequently than others, some share more info than others, some
have more personality than others, in that list, but I think
most of them have a large degree of honesty about them – they
tell it largely like it is.
I also follow my ex-business coach Chris Barrow – his blog is
looking totally AWESOME right now – and those of several of my
clients like relationship expert & singles coach Susanne
Jorgensen of The Singles Gym and Lea Woodward who travels the
world with husband Jonathan and the very beautiful Mali, while
building amazing businesses while inspiring others all the time.
Add those to the great thought leaders like Seth Godin, Shoemoney
and Rich Schefren and I’ve got my work cut out!
What disappoints me in a blog?

Article # 3 – My Top 10 Internet Gurus (& They Are Not Who You Think!)
I wanted to share with you the Top 10 Digital Marketing “gurus”
who have inspired me on my online business journey so far and
I’ve tried to tell you about them in chronological order – how I
found them (or in Guy’s case, how they found me!)
** Disclaimer – some of the links below are affiliate links and
if you click on them, I might earn a small commission. You don’t
pay any more and it all helps to keep this blog going and giving
you great information **
1. Robert G Allen – I became aware of the potential for making
money online around 1998 / 1999, about five years after I bought
my first domain name. I had long been aware of the potential for
marketing any real world business online, but was totally
blissfully ignorant about selling information products, making
money by affiliate marketing and building a mailing list to make
offers to. I, like many dyed in the wool entrepreneurs before
me, was so obsessed by building a real world business, that the
potential just passed me by! Luckily I was to meet Guy Levine
and Chris Barrow fairly soon and accidentally did a few things
right…in the meantime, my sisters husband gave her Robert Allen’s
“Multiple Streams of Internet Income” for Christmas, which I
stole, devoured and which led me to read other great Robert G
Allen books like “No Money Down For The 90?s” now updated for the
2000?s, the brilliant and groundbreaking “One Minute Millionaire”
and also other great internet books like …
2. Jaclyn Easton‘s “Striking It Rich.com” book which I read
around the same time. I had been trying to get an internet
business off the ground, based around matching up unsigned
artists in the music industry (where my husband and I had worked)
with managers looking for artist to read. Jaclyn’s book was all
about 23 little known websites that make more than $1 million per
year and essentially many of the business models were membership
sites. This inspired me so much I ended up presenting my
business plan at the VERY SECOND the dot com bubble exploded, at
the fancy Atlantic Bar & Grill in London, to a bunch of Venture
Capitalists, during a fire alarm. Which fire alarm bell started
and stopped randomly, so I was alternatively shouting into the
void, or totally inaudible!

A Business Diary : Moving MY Business & Success Forward
A Review Of What Worked & What Didn’t In 2010 & What’s 2011 Got
Hint: An article where I start out quite definite but talk
myself out of something by the end again!
Some entrepreneurs think by talking, but I think by writing, I’ve
I need to get it out of my head and onto paper, or a blog, that’s
the way forward for me.
So with thanks to Lea Woodward for the structure of this post,
I’m going to empty my thoughts looking back over 2010 and
forwards to 2011 here. I hope it helps and/or inspires you to do
the same (and I’d love to read / hear your comments) because it
sure helped and inspired me!
START ~ What I’m going to do / start doing
Make a decision about how I’m going to make money in 2011 and
stick to it!
I’ve been prevaricating in 2010, and worse than that, I’ve been
feeling depressed and unmotivated quite often. I havent’ felt
like that for at least 20 years – traditionally I’m an action
taker and taking action stops you feeling depressed usually.
But I think I’ve turned the corner now thanks to that old healer,
Time, and a little Venn Diagram helped and I wrote about that
here in a blog post “How To Be Happy In Business”
That Venn Diagram is now my desktop, and it covers three circles
1. What You Are Good At
2. What You Want To Do
3. What You Can Get Paid For
The intersection of two of the circles are not good and you need
to learn to say no, the intersection of another two indicates you
need to become even better at that and the intersection of
another two is where the sweet spot lies.
Have a look and see if the Venn Diagram speaks to you as it did
There were also a number of great inspirational blog posts in
2010 – Frank Kern wrote one about you being your own best guru
here which is well worth a read
And worth a regular re-read, if, like me, you keep looking for
mentors and coaches to guide you, especially when you are not
feeling very confident about your direction.

Today’s Idea, Offer Or Recommendation From Nicola
** Closing Tonight – Tuesday – At Midnight **
Just the other day I spent the whole morning planning
I used Dave Navarro’s “7 Steps To Playing A
MUCH Bigger Game” – google it if you like.
And I know that a big part of that “much bigger
game” is going to be spent …..
….but don’t let me spoil it for you. Suffice to say
3. low tech
4. low start up costs
The Google Guys, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates etc…
all say this is it… and I x one-million % agree!
If you are looking for something new to do in
2011 (or just something to add on to what you
already do), you should take a look at this.
