Isn’t life weird? Weird and wonderful all at the same time. A couple of years ago I signed up for Rich Schefren’s BGS (Business Growth System) live coaching programme and one of the included audios had an interview with a guy called Gary Vaynerchuk.
Man, he was LOUD!
I loved the interview though, and so I’ve been following Gary ever since, online, as he walked the talk, building his mum and dad’s wine store to a multi-million business, using 10-minute wine tasting videos on YouTube. I watched as he created WineLibrary.tv and became more famous, almost accidentally, sought after for his passionate talks at seminars and big corporate keynote speeches. As he almost accidentally built …
As he almost accidentally built his brand, learning about brand building online as he went. I watched his own library of videos grow at GaryVaynerchuk.com talking about everything from his passion for the New York Jets, to success thinking to where big business is going wrong on Social Media and Web2.0. How passionate he was for sharing how the little guys – us in fact – can use these free, fun tools to quite literally crush their competitors – how the time is now to do that.
I commented on his blogs and his videos, and when he asked for help to get the word out there about his new book “Crush It!”, I put up my hand. Then Gary made a special video for Money Gym peeps – and sent it around the world to us, for you all. Watch it here right now!
And today is the day – Gary is doing a book signing at Barnes & Noble to launch his book and, from the other side of the world, I’m helping (and buying some signed copies).
You too can get your hands on a copy today…..and if you want a first edition, signed copy, you had better come along to the Money Gym “Really Useful Internet Day” as you might win one!
“Everything has changed. The social media revolution has irreversibly changed the way we live our lives and conduct our business. There are billions of dollars in advertising moving online, waiting to be claimed by whoever can build the best content and communities. Despite this change, most people keep working at jobs that don’t make them happy and businesses continue to ignore the major marketing and public relations benefits that can be found online.
I’m not passionate about something sexy or popular like wine so these lessons don’t apply to me.
The internet has drastically decreased the costs of building communities around niche subjects, allowing for even the most obscure subjects to draw enough eyeballs to command advertising attention. Starting a video blog about tortilla chips may seem farfetched until Doritos gives you a call and offers 40,000 a year to sponsor and advertise on your blog.
My business already has a Twitter account and a Facebook page, we’re set in the social media department.
This is the equivalent of claiming twenty years ago that just because your business bought a TV spot and a few ads in the newspaper, you didn’t need to pay attention to your advertising department. Social media isn’t about joining in, it’s about being involved.
I’m happy at my job so this book is irrelevant to me.
First of all, congratulations on finding work that makes you happy! However, the lessons in this book are valuable to anyone, regardless of their employment status. Crush It will show you how to utilize high level and platform specific social media and marketing strategies that will improve your work. It will also show you how to build a personal brand so that even if you’re forced to leave your job, a situation that’s especially relevant today, you’ll be able to easily find employment elsewhere in a field you’re passionate about.
p.s. As I say, we are going to be giving away as prizes three of the first edition signed copies on our “Really Useful Internet Day”, in the Gary Vaynerchuk Challenge. Why not come along, it’s only £25 which we are donating to The Big Issue (who help the homeless help themselves). Get onto our priority VIP list here http://www.themoneygym.com/internetday
