Would you be interested in a part time business opportunity that had the potential, with just 8 clients, to make you £150k a year?
One that could be run evenings and weekends, alongside your day job till you felt comfortable giving that day job up?
Where you simply go out and socialise, asking local business people five simple questions, to attract clients?
A nice little business where you could either learn to do the work yourself and keep all the money, OR outsource ALL the work, to a proven UK based team making around £50 an hour profit, OR eventually get yourself two x full time VA’s in the Far East and have a $1200 a month total overhead. At which time you could take on 32 clients and quadruple your earnings.
Only other essential investment? Business cards, a website of your own and membership of some local networking groups like the Chamber of Commerce (around £100 year depending on area).
One with all the processes and systems are created for you, the marketing materials all ready to copy and use, the essential documents already made and tested?
Sounds intriguing? Yes, that’s what I thought.
I’ve been investigating this business opportunity for the last year, and I’ve invested in many, many tuition courses over the year. All from America, where this is rapidly becoming big business (Hint: one HUGE internet marketer has given up IM entirely to start a real locally based business doing this).
From September 2010, I’ve been out in the UK marketplace testing this business opportunity, fine tuning it, making sure the market wants it, is ready for it, and more importantly, is willing to pay for it.
The answer is a resounding “Yes! Please! When Can You Start?!!”
What is this business opportunity?
Local Business Marketing, that’s what. This is where you help local businesses to market themselves better, specifically online.
But I don’t know anything about marketing, or internet marketing, or even how to do that for myself! you might say.
Don’t worry, I have a 10 part Spartan Marketing Course that will give you a real good grounding in the basics of marketing. And I have a full internet marketing tuition course that you can study if you want to.
BUT NONE OF THAT IS NECESSARY.
YOu don’t have to know how to do it, because you can outsource the actual work – in fact I recommend you do! You can take on more Local Business Marketing clients that way.
Weird the things that hold you back isn’t it?
The only thing that held ME back from launching this earlier last year was, funnily enough, the time management aspect as I wanted to know that, in the event of the outsourcing failing for any reason, I could step in and actually deliver the service myself.
Entrepreneurs Trap #3 if you have read my Money Gym book!
This completely ridiculous fear led to the production of this rather splendid document – the Client Work Monthly Planner. Click the pic to download and take a closer look!
By the way…………
This is just ONE of the documents I’m producing for my “Local Business Marketing” Mentoring Clients.
There’s one with 80 questions to ask a business owner, on the first consultation, that gently educates them and shows them just how little effective marketing they are already doing.
There’s another with a total client journey process from the minute they say “Yes!” to the minute you start the monthly tasks for them.
There is a document that identifies your potential “ideal clients” and explains why a hairdresser isn’t an ideal client but why a wedding hairdresser is.
As I say, I’ve compiled five little questions to ask business owners, while networking, that will intrigue them and gently position you as the expert and effortlessly sell your services.
There’s a full professional powerpoint presentation, all ready for you to add your logo, and either use in person, or to make a video from, with your voiceover, and put it on your website / YouTube.
What About Getting Some Support?
How about doing this with the support of an experienced entrepreneur, who happens to know how to run a business, who knows all about the scary stuff like tax and VAT, and how to manage your cashflow, produce simple management accounts and know how your business is really doing, in just 30 minutes a week.
Would you like to travel with me on this journey? A week or so ago, I blogged and sent out an email, inviting potential “Local Business Marketers” to join me as a mentoring student. Over 40 put their hand up and I have been interviewing and signing up keen folks, one per geographical area, since then.
I can only work with 10 people at a time, as this involves a lot of personal support. One To One Support. In addition to the support of the team. I’m even giving out my personal Skype and personal email for heavens sake! I’ve never done that before.
As you can imagine, several of the 10 available “Local Business Marketing” Mentoring places have gone already, as people seem to agree with me that this is possibly the biggest business opportunity, since the internet was invented, and have bagged their mentoring place already.
One chap told me yesterday he made his mind up to do this from the first email he saw last week.
Two of the people that have signed up have full time jobs and I know it’s going to be perfectly possible to do this part time.
I have just 4 places left in this initial bunch of students.

Hi Nicola,
I would like to know the cost for your services?
This is always what’s held me back in the past.
Many thnaks
Danielle
Dear Danielle, thanks for your comment! Wow, I’m amazed because I THINK I am always so upfront with my charges on the various sales pages. Obviously I’m not as obvious as I think LOL! I’ve just added a page on each of my sites under the “About” menu tab called “work with Nicola” and there is a little summary on there but essentially there are three main ways – all focused on Internet Marketing nowadays. Group coaching, 1:2:1 coaching and also business consultancy. You can get started working with me from as little as £97 per month, in my group internet marketing mentoring programme here on NicolaCairncross.com. Here’s the link https://nicolacairncross.com Cheers, Nicola
I was just talking about this to my friend Eavan last week, we’ve started studying social media marketing recently with a view to starting our own bussiness doing just what you said “marketing local business”, we live in Ireland and businesses are struggling and really need all the resources available to promote their business, we would be very interested in what you are doing. (Law of attraction!!!)
Yvonne
Dear Yvonne,
I’ve been looking at this over the last year and studying with some of the USA based tuition courses. After that, and talking to a couple of my clients who have tried offering this, I’ve come to the conclusion that Social Media Management alone is not cost effective to offer as the amount of management / time required adds up to a monthly maintenance fee that the client is just not willing to pay (unless they are a big corporate).
However, as part of a website/internet marketing setup / maintenance package, it becomes much more feasible. In fact, I’ve worked out that, following my timetable (see other post) you can run 8 clients at 2 levels, work 2.5 days a week and earn between £75k and £150k a year, depending on what hourly rate you want. And still make a profit outsourcing it eventually. If you are willing to work 5 days a week (or outsource) you can double that, and for every extra body working in your business, you can take on 16 more clients, so the sky is the limit.
How else can I help you guys?
Cheers, Nicola
Thanks for that Nicola, what your saying makes sense,we were wondering how to structure a package that would attract clients – and would be cost effective for us. I tried e-mailing the number on the last comment for the information about your package but I’m getting ‘not a valid e-mail’ response
Regards
Yvonne
Dear Yvonne
Did you try replacing the [at] with the usual @ sign? I have to write email addresses on the blog like that or you would get spammed to high heaven!
Here’s the email address again to get more info automatically by return email:

Or just email me personally at nicola [at] nicolacairncross.com with [Local Business Mentoring] in the subject and I’ll send you the info across manually.
