On Success & Motivation
Have I mentioned that my ex-husband Irving Soremekun just finished his first every marathon, the first ever Brighton Marathon 2010, coming in a respectable 30 minutes or so after Fat Boy Slim, aka Norman Cook. It was Norman’s first marathon I believe too, so well done both of you.
Irving has never run 26 miles before, having only managed 12 or so, in his trainings. when I interviewed him afterwards (see the video here http://BestMarathonNutrition.com) he said something that rather intrigued me.
I asked him if he ever had any doubt at any point in the 26 miles, bearing in mind the most he’d run before was 12 miles, whether he would make it.
He answered….well, watch the video to see what he says exactly, but essentially his answer was “no, no doubts at all”. Amazing. Watch the video here http://BestMarathonNutrition.com – it’s had more views already than my 45 minute presentation on Success, uploaded at the same time!
Well, he’s now asking me about internet marketing and of course I encouraged him, so he’s now got his own blog about running marathon’s with particular focus on nutrition as this is one of the things he really struggled to find good information on, online, when training himself.
Sidenote: In my opinion, that’s what you need for your first business online, a personal interest or passion, a hungry market, a gap in that hungry market and INITIALLY other people info products you can make money from, while blogging to build up your traffic. THEN you can split your time between blogging for traffic and creating your own products and services, which Irving is going to do by interviewing people who can help marathon runners become faster, easier, and to look after themselves (you should have SEEN his toes!).
As well as reading Yaro Starak’s blog (fast becoming a not-to-be-missed firm favourite with me) I’ve been thinking again a lot about success. You can find Yaro at Entrepreneurs-Journey.com – he’s a brilliant blogger and internet marketer but is really digging deep into what makes him and others successful (or not). Thought provoking stuff.
I’ve got to tell you, the last 10 years have been a right old roller coaster for me personally, since discovering personal development, wealth creation, and all that jazz and I’ve grown a lot in the process, however, just when I think I’ve really cracked it, this success lark, BAM! Another lesson to learn LOL.
It’s getting to the phase when setbacks and challenges really are not bothering me on a very deep level, well, not since February and my soujorn in Greece that is.
Something big happened emotionally while I was away in Greece ….
I think my internal computer was reset, as I’m finding it easier to accept, be grateful, cope and focus. I don’t feel so responsible for other people’s feelings which is HUGE for me. All summed up by the Ho’oponopono prayer in fact, which client and friend Jane P Lewis kindly tried to teach me to say properly at Martin Avis’ Internet Marketers “London Lunch” on Friday.
One thing I never have any problem with is motivation (where work is concerned anyway, exercise is another matter!). Only this morning I was lying in bed quite early, half asleep, when my iPhone beeped at me that I had a new Facebook message. I tried to ignore it, but no, sleep was gone.
I surfed Facebook and Twitter a bit and then just had to get up and DO SOMETHING. An hour or so later I had the Facebook “like” button installed on my main blog, and a “Success Factor” ezine signup box installed on the tabs of my Facebook page, two things I’d been meaning to do for a while.
Funny, this having to take action business. I have it in spades (even according to my Kolbe Index, I’m a 9 on Quickstart) and it manifests in this tipping point thing I’ve described above. I think about things for………a few nanoseconds …. and then I have to take action.
The downside is that, if a project takes more planning or working on than I thought, I go off the boil, no matter how good it seemed at the time. I need to get momentum going or get a gang together to help drive things forward.
How do you like to work?
Are you someone who needs to do loads of research then tips over into action?
Or loads of research but never tips over into action?
The Kolbe Index is an invaluable tool for finding out your preferred ingrained method of taking action, and one of my mentors Rich Schefren recruits people to his business, by getting a range of Kolbe Index personality types around him. He’s pretty much a dead match for my Kolbe score actually, which is probably why I was drawn to him as a mentor.
Thinking about it, many of my internet mentoring clients are very similar to me – Star/Creator/Mechanic types in Wealth Dynamics terms (although I do attract some Lord/Accumulator/Dealmakers but mostly very action orientated.
Perhaps that’s why they have trouble keeping up with the daily blogging, so essential for a new business online. If thats you right now, you might enjoy this post about how to blog daily, simply and easiler http://nicolacairncross.com/2010/04/blogging-made-simple-again/
Does any of this post ring true for you?
Do you have a problem with getting motivated and taking action?
I’d love to help, if I can, so why don’t you join the conversation by using the “Share Your Thoughts” link above, or by “liking” this article on Facebook?
