On Business | My Business Diary
A bit of a short section this one, as I’ve covered a bit about my business progress in the Success section above.
However, I’ve been networking locally like a mad thing today – I started the day with a coffee with David (ex Snowboarding Champion) and Dermot, who I met at the First Friday event
at the Burlington Hotel Worthing a couple of weeks ago. We got on like a house on fire after a confusion about what time we were meeting (I worked till 2am after a meeting in London so woke up a bit late but it turned out they got the time wrong – no matter, we found each other eventually). It’s very cool to meet complete strangers who you like immediately! We had a very compatible energy and we have a few action steps to move things forward.
Then onto the Worthing And Adur Chamber Hub event at the historic art deco Shoreham Airport, which was busy (around 50 odd people) and a lot of fun. The first person I talked to told me about a brand new mortgage offer where, if you are a business person who earns well now, and who has a 20% deposit, you can get a mortgage with no credit check – brilliant if you have had troubles in the past, but are doing well again now. Every person I talked to was interesting, either from the point of view of my helping them, or them helping me so that was a real blast of a couple of hours.
Then I had an errand or two to run and an hour or so to kill, so went for a quick lunch, where I was joined by Paul Stanford, local business advisor and now client of The Business Success Factory. I got a call to say my beautician was going home sick, so we lingered a while and very pleasant it was in the Shoreham sun.
I love this aspect of running your own business, just being able to enjoy great company, in the sunshine, talking about business and not having to be anywhere for a while.
I thought I was going to stay in, but I got a call from my poker buddies to say J was back from South Africa and did I want to come out, as they were in Suter’s Yard wine bar at the end of my road. That lead onto a very pleasant evening out, which ended up in a nightclub in Worthing, whose owner I know rather well, and who, I’m glad to report, looks like he was doing very well, judging by the numbers of people rammed in there!
I’ve hardly seen the kids all weekend as they are all busy with thier own pursuits, the boys practically LIVING at the new Shoreham Skatepark which looks like a very scary place to me but they love it. Sarah’s in Belgium so if I hadn’t been out all the time, it would have been very quiet round here.
But I feel recharged from a weekend not working and there’s a busy couple of weeks coming up (check out some dates for your diary here >>>>) so it’s all good work/life balance.
Here’s a video of the opening day at Shoreham Skatepark – see what I have to worry about as mum!!
