Moving Our Businesses Forward

Nicola says:  Back from my soujourn in Stoupa, Greece and this week I’ve been focusing on learning how to use Yahoo Search Marketing (their version of Adwords) because I’m having no luck at all in getting an Adwords campaign going for the new version of my book The Money Gym – they just don’t even start my campaign and I suspect I’ve been Google Slapped due to being in the Wealth Creation space.  I want to get a steady flow of traffic, ideally that converts to sales at enough of a level to cover my costs – marketing nirvana that is!

The other thing I’ve been doing is religiously blogging on each of my local business blogs, to get them even further up Page One of Google (or from page two to page one) so that I can go out and market our local business lead generation service at the networking groups and breakfasts locally.

I’ve also been uploading at least an article a day onto Ezine Articles to get more backlinks and traffic back to my core site at NicolaCairncross.com

My activities have been greatly helped by Judith sharing a brilliant article about “process goals” which enable you to reach our “outcome goals” more easily and in a focused manner.  This was a BIG missing part of the jigsaw puzzle of success for me, because I am great at creating outcome goals but not so good at working out HOW to achieve them, sticking to that plan and measuring it’s success and adjusting accordingly

And here’s an example of how I’m using it:

Outcome Goal – £10k per month online income from memberships of my “Hidden Star To Superstar” internet marketing mentoring programme.  To achieve this I estimate I need a new mailing list of between 1000 and 10,000, signing up from a steady stream of traffic to my website, converting to subscribers, converting to ebook buyers, converting to Stellar Members, converting to Supernova Members.

I’ve been targeting a three word key phrase for the last three months, and my site is now No 1 on Google for that key phrase, which gets over 1500 pretty targeted searches a month.  All people who want to learn about making money online and who want a mentor. I also want to get more backlinks to my site to raise it’s ranking even higher and boost traffic.

Process Goal 1:   Add a new article a day to EzineArticles – I have loads and can update and rewrite those from our Money Gym blog.

Process Goal 2:   Get a Pay Per Click campaign going on Yahoo Search Marketing as Google.

Process Goal 3:   Start an internet marketing ezine to keep in touch with my new subscribers.

I’ve managed to do all three this week so I’m feeling pretty pleased with that.  I’ll see if it increases my traffic overall, although I’ve been having a lot of strategic partners mailing about my Money Gym 2010 book, so that’s skewing my traffic figures.  Alexa reports a 190% increase in traffic over one month, and a 100% increase in traffic over three months, with 27 sites linking in, so that will give me something to measure against. More articles out there, syndicated by EzineArticles, should mean more links.  Alexa reports that my three months trailing traffic rank is 242,547 while my one month trailing traffic rank is 164,900 and my UK ranking is 11,815.

More importantly, I’m starting to get traffic from what they call “High Impact Search Queries” for the key phrases that I’m targeting, including the rather generic “internet marketing” which I’m pleased about.  Perhaps I should replace my Pay Per Click Campaign process goal for this week with something free?
